Hello everyone
My name is Nancy Robinson and I am principal of the new Ipswich Academy which opened in March 2011.

As a school which is part of the Learning Schools Trust partnership of Academies (Hampton and Twickenham Academies in Richmond, London opened in September 2010) we believe that young people are capable of amazing things and it is our job to see that they are given the right opportunities, facilities and support to achieve more than they ever thought possible. Students are at the centre of everything that we do. Find out more about our approach in About Us here.

Trip to Paris

By Leah Gibson

Last week from 25th — 27th April some business and French students went to Paris for 3 days. We travelled by coach and ferry. When we arrived at school we had boarded a coach to Dover which took 3 hours, and then from there we caught the ferry to Calais which took an hour and a half. We then returned to the coach to journey to the hypermarket. At the hypermarket we ate at a restaurant called ‘Flunch´ where most of the group ordered the ‘Double Tennessee´.  This is a French burger which consists of a hash brown, bacon, cheese and a hamburger. We then had an hour to go shopping I bought candles for my mum and dad, and a packet of biscuits to keep me company at the hotel.  At the hypermarket I had to try and have a conversation in French!
On the second day we woke early had breakfast and got a coach to Disneyland where we spent the day. Whilst there we had to fill in a sheet for Business as we are learning about businesses and competition within the business sector. The French students also had a booklet to complete which was a mini diary. We had to write in French explaining what we did during the three days. At the end of our day at Disneyland, we went to the Disney village to eat. Everyone went into their own little groups and Laura,  Megan and I went to the sandwich shop to eat, and bought  ham and cheese baguettes, chips, cookie and drink.
Before travelling back to Ipswich, on our last day we went sightseeing in Paris, and also went on the River Seine boat tour around the main attractions of Paris. We visited the Eiffel tower; I didn't think it was going to be as big as it was and I expected it to be silver.
After our sightseeing visit to Paris we returned to the coach stopping at a service station to eat and buy snacks for the journey home retracing our tracks to Calais and the ferry. Once back in England  we had another 3 hour drive before we arrived back in Ipswich at 9.30pm.
Overall this trip helped me with both my Business and French work. It helped me to budget my money properly and also helped me in French as I had to write out a French diary and also try and use their language.
